Québec City

Sorry for the delay, but here is our last post! This post is, almost, all about Québec!

On Monday morning we spent some time looking about Saint John, New Brunswick! We stopped at this hill on which you can see the backwards sign of 'Saint John'.

After the hill, we stopped at an indoor market and mall to do some shopping. This lovely library caught my eye and had to be put into the collage of photos.

The market had lots of different vendors with a variety of items to sell. It was great walking about and seeing just a bit more of New Brunswick before we left on our long drive to Québec City.

We arrived in Québec City too late to sight seeing, so these next few photos are of Tuesday.
In the morning we did a lot of walking about in the old part of Québec City. We stopped for a bit at La Citadelle, a fortress where the 22nd Royal Regiment are stationed.

A picture of the old city wall. We spent most of our time in the city wall where there are lots of the shops and old buildings.

Most of our time in Québec City was spent walking down one of the old-fashioned streets within the old city walls.

Of course we stopped at a tourist information centre to get a bit of advice on what to see. While there we saw this lovely snowman from the Quebec Winter Carnival, Bonhomme Carnaval!

Another photograph of the picturesque streets. Later on we went to the St-Patrick for supper, where we had some delicious food with a great atmosphere!

A bustling alley with lots of paintings and photos for sale.

A cute little dog in a shop window. And yes, he is real!

After lots of shopping, we looked inside the church Notre Dame. And no, it isn't the one in Paris. "Notre Dame" means "Our Lady", referring to Mary. While in Québec City, we stopped inside two Notre Dame churches.

It was ornately decorated inside and just gorgeous to look at!

Part of the ceiling of the church.
In this particular Notre Dame church, there is a Holy Door. There are only seven Holy Doors in the world, the rest being in Europe. The door has Jesus depicted on it with outstretched hands, as in saying, "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Light no one comes to the Father but through me." The seven Holy Doors are sealed for 50 years and then in the year of Jubilee (from Leviticus 25:8-13) it will be opened for a year and then sealed again for another 50. This door was only just put in last December, so fortunately we were there just when people could still go through the door!

After visiting the churches, we stopped at an indoor food market for some lunch.

And then, once again, we walked around old Québec, discovering little treasures along the way.

An colourful sculpture.

A ship's mast we could climb.

This street is in one of the oldest parts of Quebec, and it had lots of shops to look around in.

Us four and another cousin (Adri), who is not in he photo, got a caricature done of ourselves. It was lots of fun and the finished product was amazing!

I have no idea why these pigeons and a can of soup are here, but they make great props for photos!

The funicular brought people up and down to the different levels of the old part of the city. One could use the stairs, but the weather wasn't being very pleasant for us so we opted for a nice warm ascent.

The funicular also boasted a great view of the St. Lawrence seaway.

The Chateau Frontenac, a beautiful hotel.
When we were all tired out from shopping, we headed to dinner.
Our table inside St-Patrick's. We had an amazing spot!
While walking back to our cars, we got to see the beauty of Québec City at night.

The old wall.
The next day,Wednesday, we stopped in Beaupre to visit St. Anne's church. It is named after the mother of Mary. It is North America's oldest pilgrimage sight.

Even the outside it beautiful.
Once you step inside the church, you are left stunned by the beauty of it! It is so richly decorated with such meaning in everything. It really was breathtaking sight!

The intricate ceiling.
Down the aisle in mosaic, the seven deadly sins are represented. This one is Greed. The monkey is holding on to it's bag because of it's greed and the frog represents how ugly greed is.

In the basement of the church was a chapel, which was also gorgeous.

One of the many paintings in the church. The artists who worked on this church were very talented.
Once having visited the church, we went to the island of Orleans, known for it's apples.

It was a beautiful island and took us a short time to go around it.

Of course we had to stop and try some of the wines and ciders made from the grapes, apples, and plums of the island.

At another place we tried jellies, mustards, preserves, and ciders, all home made. It was all delicious!
After our day touring the island, we had our supper at Mike's. It was a great place for our lat meal together.

On the next morning, our aunt, uncle, and cousins left early to catch their plane and so left just us four in Québec. We didn't have to be at the airport until 2:00 so that left us some time to do yet some more shopping.
One of the bustling streets
We stopped at a little creperie, which had amazing crepes. A very French end to our tour.

After our delicious lunch, we headed to the airport and boarded our plane bound for home.

It has been an amazing two weeks, in a beautiful part of Canada with some of my favourite people! Even though I'm sad that it's over, it's good to be home. Thanks to all of you who followed us on our journey, it has been an adventure of a lifetime! Maybe you'll be hearing from us in a years time in, who know's? I can'wait to see what the future holds!

Anne and Flower Pots

Once again we are telling our stories from the east coast!  These next few pictures are from P.E.I. and New Brunswick, our third and fourth provinces out of the five.

In P.E.I. we stayed in the Cavendish area in two cottages that are situated on a farm. It was a beautiful place to be with great cottages! We stayed there Friday and Saturday night.

The farm across the road
And, of course, since it was a farm there were lots of cats to play with! They were awfully cute.
Our full day (Saturday) in P.E.I. was spent mostly at Anne of Green Gables! At least for the girls in our group. The Green Gables, The Haunted Woods, and Lover's Lane were owned by the author's relatives. L.M. Montgomery. the author, spent many hours walking about, since she only lived a few minutes away! One of us (Kaitlyn), who has naturally red hair, dressed up as Anne and got quite a few pictures taken of her by other tourists! The rest of us girls wore a hat or put our hair in braids, to help get into the theme!

Anne's house
Anne's bedroom. For the big fans out there, notice the puffed sleeves on Anne's dress!

The Haunted Woods
Lover's Lane. It was a beautiful little walk!

Right close to Green Gables is a cemetery where L.M. Montgomery is buried.

Lucy Maude Montgomery's grave

After a great day spent in Cavendish, we got on the road again the next day bound for New Bruswick! We went over the Confederation Bridge from Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. It was such a long bridge, measuring 13km! It was a really cool sensation to drive for that long period of time over the ocean.

Yup, super long.

Once we got to New Brunswick, we drove for a bit until we got to the Hopewell Park by the Bay of Fundy. It was amazing! It's kind of hard to explain the place we went, but looking at the pictures explains a lot. And also, the tide comes in quite quickly and you can see on the rocks how far the water comes up. You really wouldn't want to get stuck down there.
These are Flower Pot rocks

Some of the caverns you'll find (reminds us of the entrance to the paths of the dead).
One of the many caves where you need a flashlight to see anything!

It was very astounding! I kept on thinking how I am walking on the bottom of the ocean. When high tide comes, it would be over my head.

It has been such an awesome time in Cavendish and in New Brunswick! I'm sorry to have to leave New Brunswick tomorrow already, but I'm glad to spend what little time we had in beautiful New Brunswick. Tomorrow we will be driving to Quebec City which will be our last stop on our journey. It has been so much fun writing about our adventures with Sarah's, and a few of my dad's, beautiful pictures. That's all for today!
